Stem Cell Research

I recently did a lot of research on the topic of stem cell research. When I started I was all for it ready to go, and I didn't fully understand why someone wouldn't want to pursue stem cell research when it could potentially save so many lives!

For those who don't know, stem cell research is the process of taking embryonic stem cells out of a zygote, which is technically an undeveloped unborn fetus, and creating them into almost any organ or tissue. Meaning that if someone had lung cancer, instead of waiting for a transplant lung and possibly running out of time, doctors could just make them another lung. Many people have a moral and ethical issue with taking the life of what is thought to be an unborn child.

From my experience, I have learned that for a lot of people and different religions life starts at fertilization, which is when the formation of a zygote takes place. They believe that the embryo, or blastula cell, is the early stages of life and could technically be coined as murder.

I am a religious person, but that doesn't mean that I have to be against stem cell research. I am a pro choice democrat, but that doesn't mean that I agree with abortion. The situations and circumstances must be taken into serious consideration. For example imagine a single mother who is addicted to drugs. Should she be forced to have her baby? Or should she be allowed to have an abortion and give the embryo to science, which in return could possibly save the lives of many sick people.

Late Start

Hey guys. I am clearly getting a VERY late start on this, but I am looking forward to figuring all of this out! I hope you enjoy my blogs and comment on them every now and then!

Blackle

http://www.blackle.com/

This website is one I discovered while doing research on my company. Google Inc. has made many efforts to try and better the environment and this website is just one of those ways. Blackle.com is a website that is exactly like Google, but instead of being white the screen is all black. Apparantely, the black screen saves so many watts per minute which conserves energy in the long end. This website is so neat, and I would suggest using it as much as you can! It is very easy and it is EXACTLY like Google, because it is created by the same people. Google is trying to discover different ways to make helping the enviornment easy on the consumers of the world. So, the founders at Google Inc. must think what could be harder than typing a few different letters from your own computer chair. The sad thing is, is that I bet a majority of people do not even know about blackle.com and have not had the opportinity to use it. Either that or they just don't care as much as they should and still use regular Google Inc. or Yahoo.
